Vic:Push within Labor to change Vic abortion laws

A concerted push to change Victoria's laws so that abortions are no longer illegal
will be made at this weekend's ALP state conference.

The Labor women's policy committee wants the Crimes Act to be amended so that no termination
by a properly qualified doctor .. and at a women's request .. is illegal in Victoria.

The committee's resolution .. obtained by The Age newspaper .. is also urging delegates
to support alternative termination procedures such as the controversial abortion drug
RU486.

The proposed policy also calls for IVF to be equally accessible to all women .. including
gay and single women.

Labor MP CHRISTINE CAMPBELL says she will oppose any plan to make abortion legal.
