Presidential Green Chemistry Awards recognize source reduction leaders.(Monsanto, Dow Chemical, Rohm and Haas, and Donlar received Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards for pollution prevention through innovative products and technologies)

FOUR CHEMICAL MANUFACTURERS WON Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards last week for their leadership in profitably preventing pollution through innovative chemistry. The awards - presented at the National Academy of Sciences - are joint effort by EPA, the American Chemical Society (ACS), and industry and are part of an ongoing experiment at EPA with incentive-based alternatives to regulation.

An ACS panel selected award recipients from more than 70 nominations. Monsanto and Dow Chemical won for low toxicity, reduced-waste processes; Rohm and Haas and specialty-polymer maker Donlar (Bedford Park. IL) were for environmentally friendly products. Paul Anastas, …
