A WARY VIGIL ON BLOODIED STREET.(MAIN)

One day after 19-year-old Karim Maye was shot to death during a midafternoon bike ride down Livingston Avenue, children still came running when an ice cream truck made an afternoon visit to the busy street.

But several parents hovered nearby as the youngsters lined up for treats, and a number of adults said they will be more cautious about letting their children enjoy the outdoors without supervision this summer.

It's not just the stray bullets they fear, they said. It's also the terrible things their children might see while playing in their own neighborhood.

``My kids will not be out here unless I'm out here. I made that decision,'' said one 34-year-old mother as she sat on her front steps. ``I don't know why it happened, but I just wish to God that they would cut it out.'' …
